Domain name history?

Just for the record — does anyone know where you can find past registrar history about any domain name (like who owned it and such)?

Just curious….

    Hi John: I hope the day finds you well. I was wondering whether you ever found out how to run the history of a domain name? I know the whois directory has some information, but it’s marginal at best. I’m interested because one of my sites I’m told sold for big bucks back in the dot com hay-day.
