I remember

Commerce Road, Oldsmar Florida December 30th, 1996.

I remember…

A night out ended in tragedy. A night of teen drinking and pot use ended horrifically. A collision between a tanker trailer and a Geo Storm that was owned by my former supervisor when I worked at Albertsons’ supermarket at Boot Ranch. Five in total involved in the crash, four dead, one survivor…

I remember Jonathan Sklar having a locker next to me (or below me) in a PE class during my junior year at East Lake High. I remember Graham Miller and Brian Bass being in my junior year English class where I was the butt of jokes and my hearing disability led to self stupidity. I knew Tom Norman — who would end up being the scapegoat of everyone’s irresponsibility because he was the lone survivor and also the driver — being in my freshman Earth/Science class. I don’t remember specifics about the guys — they weren’t my good friends, and I was a wallflower no matter what I said or did in High School… But I remember them.

Ten years gone, and I remember hearing about the news. I remember seeing the picture of the smashed Storm on the cover of the St. Petersburg Times.

Ten years gone, and I remember them. This was really the end of childhood for some and knocked others back into reality and sanity.

I don’t know who else recalls, I don’t know who else reflects, but I remember Jon Sklar, Brian Bass and Graham Miller. Rest in peace, fellows.

Server the Servants

What web hosts have servers in Tampa Bay?

No, I’m not talking about Tampa Bay web design and hosting companies who re-sell server space that is located in Maryland, Washington DC, Atlanta, Los Angeles and the like… I mean a web hosting company with tangible server assets here in Tampa Bay (that I can prove that be true by running a tracert on domain names that on said local servers).

I’m curious because I’ve searched in the past for local companies with web hosting packages, and I’ve only found resellers — design companies that sell parts of their server space that they own with third parties.

FanHome 3.0

So about a month into FanHome 3.0 and there are some 914 registered members. Not bad for a month on the job but without a link network (in development) or real frontpage, it hurts just a bit.

But it’s better than shitty ezboards and pass-the-buck corporate administrators

Thrifty Man

Late during the summer I made some trips to local thrift stores… Mostly because I was looking to see what was there that I could obtain on the cheap. I was shocked to find a Pittsburgh Penguins old road jersey on the racks for all of $8.25. This was after I had sold (last year) a poor Tampa Bay Lightning jersey on Ebay for $25.

I held onto that Penguins jersey until now – the Holiday season and the middle of Hockey season so I could re-sell it. I’m waiting to see the outcome of this little auction.
